Bretherton Film Society Spring Season Programme 2012. Friday 20th January: ANOTHER YEAR starring Jim Broadbent, Ruth Sheen and Lesley Manville.Cert 12.(129 min). A married couple who have managed to remain blissfully happy into their autumn years, are surrounded over the course of the four seasons of one average year by friends, colleagues, and family who all seem to suffer some degree of unhappiness. Friday 10th February: TINKER TAYLOR SOLDIER SPY starring Gary Oldman, Colin Firth and Tom Hardy. Cert 15. (127 mins). Film version of John le Carré’s classic spy story. In the bleak days of the Cold War, espionage veteran George Smiley is forced from semi-retirement to uncover a Soviet agent within MI6's echelons. Friday 2nd March: THE HELP starring Emma Stone, Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer. Cert 12A. (137 mins). An aspiring author during the civil rights movement of the 1960's decides to write a book detailing the African-American maid's point of view on the white families for which they work, and the hardships they go through on a daily basis. Friday 23rd March: MY WEEK WITH MARILYN starring Michelle Williams, Eddie Redmayne and Kenneth Branagh. Cert 12. (99 mins). Colin Clark, an employee of Sir Laurence Olivier's, documents the tense interaction between Olivier and Marilyn Monroe during production of The Prince and the Showgirl. All films will commence at 7.30 pm (doors open 7.00 pm) at Bretherton Endowed School. Refreshments available (including wine).
